Tuesday, October 10, 2006 ::: THIS MESS LEAVES ME SPEECHLESS... BUT YOU KNOW THAT EXACTLY MEANS I'VE GOT SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT IT Blimey. Why oh why? I used to quite like them. Never a fan though. To me they can never be the next Take That or Boyzone, no matter how hard they try. But they used to release something good. Remember 'Bop Bop Baby', 'When You're Looking Like That', 'I Lay My Love On You' etc etc? Those were actually good. Although their ballads like 'My Love' or 'Queen Of My Heart' could be ridiculous. Still, who could blame them? They delievered something most people wanted to hear. But then it all went downhill when they started doing covers in order to secure their string of 'no 1 hits'. They covered 'Mandy'. Alright, I admit that wasn't so bad. Still bearable, and somehow it worked. But then the 'When You Tell Me That You Love Me' with Dianna Ross was a complete disaster. 'Desparate-for-a-christmas-no.1' is written all over it, but it didn't get to number 1. Thank God. But they didn't seem to have learnt anything from that lesson. Instead they've decided to do a WHOLE album worth of cheesy songs. And I've given a few songs a listen. You can't even (or maybe you can) imagine how ridiculous 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' sounds. Maybe they're trying to widen their fan base and aiming this CD at grandmas? I guess there's a slight chance English speaking grandmas would appreciate listening to a bunch of young lads singing 'You Are So Beautiful To Me'. And grandmas must love that CD cover too (isn't that red rose a nice touch? ahem). From what I heard their effort might be able to get grandma's attention for 10 seconds, at most? Does no one want to write songs for them anymore? Or is this some kind of conspiracy, in an attempt to create a reason to drop them? When Jordan Knight released his album called 'Love Songs', he got 4 fans lining up for his autograph at Wal-Mart, somewhere in America. I bet Westlife's CD can fare better than that, but this is the most boring, unimaginative, desparate, soulless, cliche, insulting rubbish I have ever heard, considering that this is a proper album release from a major act under a major label. Fortunately the CD cover and album title says exactly that, so everyone should know what's in store for them. More appropriate title might actually be 'Westlife - A Lullaby Album' Afterall instead of getting any real 'love' from this album, any listeners - whether you're babies or nannies - will definitely get your R.E.M.s in no time listening to this.
